Day 13- August 22, 2010

We went to mass at St. Joan of Arc as a community this morning. Fr. Klepec is our landlord and the priest at St. Joan of Arc, which happens to be right across the street for our house.

There used to be an elementary school and our home was the convent for the nuns who taught there. But the elementary school has closed and is now artist space. And we are not nuns, but JVs living in the former convent.

After 9am mass the parishioners held a social for us. They are all very sweet. We have three dinner invitations with three different wonderful families in the parish. After the social the parishioners packed up all the leftover food and sent it home with us.

I had lunch with Susie, we caught up and discussed Mobile. She is a helpful inside scoop for Mobile. We drove back to N. Catherine street and I met their new dog, who is tentatively named Sally. The theory is if they have a real dog Eleanor will stop acting like one. We walked around and I met a few neighbors, all of whom need babysitters. I played dress up in Susie's closet and found a dress for the wedding I'm going to in September. Then she started looking through piles of things she is getting of, our house now has another pillow, a dust ruffle, a small lamp thing, and lots of tupperwear (which we really needed). Susie earned about three hours of free babysitting with these donations. We, as a community, are also willing to trade babysitting for access to their pool.

Sunday nights are community nights. We have dinner together and then sit together to discuss the upcoming week including whose cooking each night and what dinners/meetings/community/spirituality nights we have scheduled for that week and any upcoming work events we can help at or support with our attendance.
