I was thrown into the deep end and I taught my self to swim.
Today the three administrative assistants, Tammy, Kathy, and Sherry were in Montgomery for a conference. We usually have one or two volunteers at the front desk...not today! So today I sat at the front desk, answered phones, and helped clients who walked in. All three of these things were brand new for me.
I had been learning for the past four days how to do it, and I had wanted to jump right in...but I wanted someone to watch me jump in. Since there were no admins or volunteers the only people in the office are the attorneys. Ann is the office supervisor (my boss) and the supervising attorney but she had Eileen in from Montgomery reviewing some things in the conference room, which is not easily accessible from the from desk with the phone ringing and people in the waiting area.
Charlotte was a huge help! She is a staff attorney and she was incredibly helpful. I referred most of the calls to the call center for intake interviews and transferred a lot of calls to Tammy, Kathy, and Sherry's voicemail. Ann came back into the office around 3 and realized I had been there alone with only Charlotte, who was working on cases, since about 10:30am. She told me I could head home early. Since it had been a long day I decided I'd leave half an hour earlier. I changed into the clothes I had brought to go to the Y and put my bag in Matt's car. A great de-stressing activity after a chaotic day is a peaceful walk home. It was only about 105 degree heat index. It was a great walk!
For dinner we went to the Blind Mule for $.25 wings, unfortunately the deal ended about two years ago. In the future we are not going to blindly trust the internet and instead call the places a head of time.
don't trust what you read on the internet!!!!!!!!
