Day 16- August 25, 2010

I did my first intake alone!

Today was an interesting day. My brother is home in CT on leave, but today I found out two people in the Vermont National Gaurd, my brothers brigade, were killed:

Maj. Gen. Michael Dubie was brought to tears announcing the deaths of Sgt. Tristan Southworth, 21, of Walden, Vt., and Sgt. Steven Deluzio, 25, of South Glastonbury, Conn. They were killed early Sunday morning in Afghanistan.

"This is a tough time in Afghanistan for our brigade," Dubie said.

Gen. Dubie says he is proud of the work the Vermont National Guard is doing in Afghanistan and the soldiers don't have to live in state to be Green Mountain Boys.

"Sgt. Deluzio maybe from Connecticut but he's as much a member of the Vermont National Guard as I am," Dubie said.

In addition to this heartbreaking news, today marks six years. Six years ago today Aidan Lambo was a little medical miracle. Being born with his heart ventricles reversed, on this day he received a life saving surgery. Later, Bridget Lambo, was told her baby was the smallest baby to date to survive the surgery. I sat on Lake Avenue and watched the three older Lambo boys waiting for the day I'd meet the littlest Lambo. September 15th will mark the date I met Aidan.
