While I was in Austin I accidentally texted Alex, USA coach. It ended up being a good thing because I found out he'd be teaching Tuesday and Thursday nights, the same nights as USA practices. South has their first game January 29... less than 2 weeks from today. Dube (another USA coach) will also be teaching on Tuesday nights but can make Thursday practices. Alex asked if I'd be able to coach and be a consistent presence for the team. The question was a bit overwhelming, these girls need a coach who has the team as their priority and I cannot do that. My priority is my job and community, my priority is my JV year. Helping the local up and coming rugby team can be a part of this year, it has been a huge part of this year, but it can't be what this year is about. I told Alex I'd do what I could but I cannot commit to these girls knowing that I won't be at all the practices.
Today I lead practice. As the practice began it started to down pour. With a game in less than two weeks these girls needs this practice. So we had rugby in the pouring rain. I love rugby in the rain! The ground is soft and technique is important. Once the lightening started it seemed clear that practice should end.
With the end of practice came my realization that I was locked out of Matt's car... in the pouring rain. One of my girls had AAA and we were able to get the car open... but note to self: Make sure Matt's keys (both sets) are not inside the care before locking and closing the doors!
