Day 152- January 10, 2011

Tonight we went to dinner with Sarah. Sarah is an FJV. She was in the original Mobile JV community in 1990. She worked at L'Arche during her JV year and continued to work with L'Arche after she finished her year and is now a social worker in Boston. For the past 20 years she has remained involved and comes to Mobile to help with the annual marathon. She told us about the JV community her year, 20 years ago. There were 9 JVs living in our house. What we use as a tv room and spirituality area on the first floor were bed rooms. One member left the community within the first few months. One male community member came into the house discerning the priesthood, starting dating a girl within the house, and in the end came out. Another female member of her community became close with some of the Jesuits at Spring Hill College. She was going through a difficult situation and became especially close with one Jesuit who was one year out of ordination. They both left their respective programs and moved to Virginia together. The relationship didn't last, but they are both married and currently living a few blocks from each other in Arlington. It was so great listening to Sarah fondly recall the memories of her JV year. She remains close with several community members while others have not spoken since the end of their year. It felt like a short glimpse of what the future could hold for us.

After the wonderful dinner we headed over the Hopjacks for Low Life Mondays with Allen. In reality we had to head to the bar because the national championship was on and we don't get ESPN. As Andrew Vivian said "War Tide"... "Roll Eagle"... he was confused, but he thinks he has family who went to Alabama so he is an Auburn fan. I look forward to coming into my office of Auburn fans tomorrow since the are the champions (I hope as you read that last line "we are the champions starting playing in your head).
