Day 81 - 83 October 29,30, and 31 2010

Friday Megan, Mary P. and I headed to New Orleans for some Halloween fun.

Steve, a New Orleans JV, works for Project Lazarus. Project Lazarus provides services to people with AIDS who can longer live independently, or whose family can no longer take care of them. The goal of Project Lazarus is to show those in need of their services that they can live with the disease and it is not something that they are dying with, but living with. Project Lazarus' services are available to all regardless on age, race, religion, gender, economic status, sexual orientation, or handicap.

The event, Halloween 27 in New Orleans, is their big fundraiser of the year. There are events Thursday through Sunday.

Friday night the event was at the House of Blues.  Megan, Mary P. and I dressed up like the members of TLC.  We helped greet people and collect tickets for the event, but once the doors closed we were able to go inside and participate in the event.

Saturday night the event was at Mardi Gras World.  Tonight I was a mermaid, Megan was Audrey Hepburn, and Mary P. was Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. We went with Nate to the shuttle pick up locations and welcomed the participants as they arrived for the shuttle.  Most of the participants were gay men and each person had an amazing costumes.  These costumes usually consisted of skin tight clothing, which was often nothing more than colors briefs.  Most people were in group costumes, such as the ninja turtles who wore colored underwear and a shell backpack.  I got several compliments during those hours, one was "You have nice breasts, for a woman...which I'm not interested in, but yours are nice."  The shuttles stopped picking people up at midnight, so we took the last shuttle back to the event and helped collect tickets.  About 8 of the New Orleans JVs were also helping.  Brian's mom was also in town and along with one her friends helped us with the tickets.  It was a great time!

Sunday morning we got up early to head back to Mobile, since I was the DD the night before it was easy for me to get up at 9am...although not getting home until almost 4am Sunday morning meant that when we got back to Mobile I slept for the rest of the day.
