Last night we went to Tipitina's in New Orleans for a benefit concert. Music for Matt is an annual benefit concert to celebrate the life of Matt Costa. It raises money for two causes in line with Matt’s spirit of service and adventure: The Peace Corps Partnership Program Mali and The Costa Memorial Scholarship.
The Peace Corps began in 1961, more than 180,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 138 countries. There have been 279 volunteers who have died while in service to their country.
Matt was incredibly special to a lot of people. He had a unique way of forming true bonds with people from all walks of life. He was artistic, athletic, passionate, philosophical, smart, witty, wiry, and politically and globally engaged. Matt left us way too soon. He died in a boating accident on September 3, 2006 while serving the Peace Corps in Mali.
Music for Matt takes place every October in New Orleans; the specific date is chosen to coincide with Tulane University’s homecoming weekend (Matt is a 2003 graduate).

The concert was at Tipitina's, which was founded in 1977 as a place for Professor Longhair to perform, Tipitina's has become a musical institution that hosts many of New Orleans' most beloved artists.

It was a great night and I loved getting to know the New Orleans Jesuit Volunteers, who were kind enough to let us stay with them!
we went to the Tulane Army game at the Super Dome. After the game I went to dinner with Megan and her fiancé's father, who was in town on business.
Some how Megan and I made it back to the JV house in one piece, before embarking back out to a few bars in New Orleans. Andrew L., Matt, and I went with Catherine (a NOLA JV) to Bourbon Street. It was an interesting place that I do not think I'll ever need to see again :)
