Day 46- September 24, 2010

Wedding weekend begins:

This is my first string of non-simple days. It was a great break. It was nice to take a step away from my life in Mobile. I won't lie I missed my roommates.  I also loved talking about my job, which was interesting because I found myself starting with, listen to how hard my job is, but quickly it evolved to listen to the injustice faced by the poor in Alabama. I don't want praise for the job I do, I seek understanding and support regarding the difficulties faced by my clients.

I find that a lot of clichés can often be funny jokes. But when the jokes are insensitive and the individual doesn't understand the populations they are mocking it becomes so much easier to make these jokes without any reservations. I don't think most people make these jokes for cruel or harsh reasons, but it's simply in exposure to the situations.  This job has definitely made me sensitive to the truth behind these types of jokes.

I had breakfast with Bridget in DC, which was great. I loved catching up with her and spending time with her.  I talked with Alex for a bit before I left to head up to New York.  I stopped at the new rest stop in Delaware, it is ridiculous! I drove by Fordham, which I had never been to before.  It is a beautiful campus!  I spent the night cooking a great dinner filled with red meat and watching TV, two things we rarely do in Mobile :)
